and a couple of others, have a larger mp4 file derived from a smaller avi file. While I understand the mp4 streams, is the derive process heavy-handed?

I knew that I was going to upload this via ftp and a slow Internet connection, so I curtailed the size by using an average bitrate of 620 kb/s. Since the bitrate was low, a picture size of 384x288 seemed appropriate.

The Archive seems to be using a bitrate somewhat higher than this, although they used to use 512 kb/s.

They bumped this one up to 700Kbps, 640x480 according to mediainfo.

Maybe that's the new standard here.

Subjective, but they both looked about the same quality, and no mp4 sync issues.
